Ookla Internet Award: Converge Embarrasses Globe While PLDT & Smart Lead

In another case of which internet provider has the slowest internet speed in the Philippines, Ookla, arguably the most popular internet speed metric standard in the world, has released its Fastest Fixed Internet Award and Fastest Mobile Awards for Q1 and Q2 of 2020. According to its analysis, PLDT and Smart lead the way with comfortable margins.

For the fixed internet, PLDT’s average internet speed score is 24.79 Mbps. Converge ICT, which is a major yet small company offering services mainly in Pampanga, finishes second with 21.53 Mbps. Sky Cable is third, with 15.56 Mbps. Last and least is Globe with a disappointing 9.17 Mbps. As for top speeds, PLDT averages 70.54 Mbps. Sky Cable is second, with 40.14 Mbps, but with a marginal gap. For upload speeds, PLDT leads the way again with 85.38 Mbps. Converge ICT is second at 40.36 Mbps.

When it comes to mobile connection, Smart is number one in internet speed at 18.33 Mbps. Globe trails the biggest telecom in the country, with 12.35 Mbps. As for averages, Smart’s download and upload speed are 15.94 Mbps and 7.57 Mbps, respectively. On the other end, Globe’s numbers are 11.96 Mbps and 4.03 Mbps, respectively.
