Framework Laptop 16 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 unveiled

Framework recently unveiled its latest version of the Framework Laptop 16, now with AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU.

With Upgradable GPU!

To recap, the first Framework Laptop 16 was unveiled in 2023 with fully customizable input and generational upgradeability of graphics. This new version comes with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with Blackwell architecture. It is also fully backwards compatible with the original Framework Laptop 16, which means any current owner can get the new module and get the latest generation of graphics.

The GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU now enables display output and power input over the rear USB-C port. It also comes with 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, delivering a 30-40% increase in gaming framerates compared to the previous Radeon RX 7700S Graphics Module, which remains an option for this device.

Framework also revamped its thermal system with Honeywell phase change thermal interface material and reoptimized the fan blade geometry and controller IC for reduced noise while supporting 100W sustained TGP.

For display, it features a 165Hz 2560 x 1600 panel with 500 nits brightness and supports NVIDIA G-SYNC.

Powering the Framework Laptop 16 is either an 8-core Ryzen AI 7 350 or a 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor. Both run at 45W sustained TDP. Its mainboard design has been updated and can now support four simultaneous display outputs over the rear four Expansion Card slots. There are two slots of DDR5-5600 supporting up to 96GB and two M.2 slots for up to 10TB. Users can also use the Expansion Bay Shell with integrated graphics instead of a Graphics Module.

Moreover, it also comes with an ultra-high-power-density compact 240W USB-C adapter supporting the USB-PD 3.1 spec. Other features include a second-gen webcam, reoptimized geometry on the CNC aluminum top cover, updated modular keyboards, and updated firmware behavior to prevent the system from waking if keys are triggered while the lid is closed.

The Framework laptop 16 is available in both pre-configured with Windows 11 and as a DIY Edition that users can assemble themselves, bringing their own memory, storage, and operating system, including Linux.

Note that the new graphics card is backward compatible with previous Framework Laptop 16 versions.

The new Framework Laptop 16 is priced starting at USD 1,499 (~PHP 85,574). Meanwhile, the first-gen model from 2023 now starts at USD 1,299 (~PHP 74,157) with Ryzen 7 versions and limited stocks of Ryzen 9 configurations.
