Smartphone brand HUAWEI recently unveiled its latest foldable smartphone in China, the HUAWEI Pocket 2. It follows the same design aesthetics as the previous model but adds a new hinge design, the Xuanwu water drop hinge, which enhances its flatness by 62 percent, and a double-arm lever gear that increases support force by 41percent, significantly reducing the gap when folded.
At the back, it features two circular modules that house the 1.15-inch LTPO OLED mini display and the quad cameras. It is the first foldable clamshell-type smartphone to feature 4 cameras.
The external small screen supports an always-on display feature and customizable UI with a couple of functionalities.
The rear cameras consist of a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 2MP hyperspectral camera that the brand claims can detect UV intensity.
Additionally, the foldable device incorporates aerospace-grade materials along with second-generation Kunlun glass and boasts an IPX8 rating for water and dust resistance.
When unfolded, it flaunts a 6.94 LTPO OLED display with 2690 × 1136 resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 2200 nits peak brightness, a 1440Hz high-frequency dimming system, and a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
HUAWEI has yet to reveal the official chipset that powers the device but reports suggest that it uses the brand’s own Kirin 9000S SoC and is paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage (expandable via HUAWEI’s NM card).
When folded, the device measures only 7.25mm for the glass variant and 7.35mm for the leather version.
