Discord has started rolling out a new system.
The system will automatically estimate a user’s age group based on account information, such as how old the account is, activity levels, and the servers and games they use.
Users placed in the adult age group (18+) can continue using Discord as usual. Those in the teen age group (13–17) will have additional safety protections.
For teen accounts:
- Messages from people who are not friends will go to message requests.
- Discord may show warnings before accepting friend requests from unfamiliar users.
- Sensitive images may be blurred or blocked.
- Age-restricted servers, channels, and bot commands will be unavailable.
- Some profile information and activity will only be visible to friends and people in smaller shared servers.
Accounts that Discord cannot place into an age group will be marked Unconfirmed. These users can still use Discord, but some adult-only content and settings will be locked until they confirm they are adults.
The rollout will take place throughout the week, so some users may not see the new age group status immediately.
