Two U.S.-based satellite internet companies are preparing to launch services in the Philippines, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said both companies are now processing permits with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
The DICT said the companies have already completed testing of their satellite services in the country.
The planned launches come after the Philippine government allowed full foreign ownership in the telecommunications sector to encourage more investments and improve internet access.

The government is also pushing the Konektadong Pinoy Act, which aims to make it easier for new telecom and internet providers to enter the market.
Under the National Digital Connectivity Plan, the government plans to expand fiber internet infrastructure, lower broadband costs, improve internet speeds, and increase free public Wi-Fi access nationwide.
As for the availability of the satellite internet companies, DICT announced that one provider is expected to begin operations in the coming weeks, while the other is aiming for a launch before the end of 2026.
