OmniVision is unveiling its own high-end 200MP smartphone sensor

OmniVision has reportedly unveiled its latest high-end 200MP camera sensor for smartphones that could rival the recently announced Sony LYTIA 901.

The OmniVision OVB0D, according to a report from Korean media, is a 200 MP 1/1.1-inch sensor, which makes it slightly larger than Sony’s 1/1.12-inch LYTIA 901. The OVB0D uses a traditional Bayer filter with a dual on-chip remosaic system, compared to a more advanced Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) structure found on the LYTIA 901.

Early speculation suggests that Sony’s QQBC has a slight edge in detail due to its 16-in-1 pixel grouping and AI-powered processing.

Meanwhile, other features of the OVB0D camera sensor include 400k full-well capacity (FWC) for better highlight retention, a 108 dB dynamic range for better bright and dark capture without losing details, DCG + LOFIC Gen 2 multi-frame HDR processing for an improved image clarity even in difficult lighting, and a dual-stage remosaic system for detail reconstruction for better fine textures and small details.

According to tipster iceuniverse, the OVB0D camera sensor will likely be incorporated into flagships from vivo, OPPO, Xiaomi, and HONOR in 2026.

The tipster also added that Samsung won’t adopt either of the latest and larger 200MP sensors from Sony and OmniVision due to rising component costs and concerns about profit margins. Instead, Samsung will keep using a smaller 200MP 1/1.3-inch sensor, similar to the HP2.
