Areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) with riders from not the same household are still required to use an Angkas-designed barrier. That is the new protocol set by the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, approved by the national task force for COVID-19, when back riding in Metro Manila and similarly-quarantined locations. As for those who live in the same household, you no longer need “dumb barriers” when traveling outside.

As reported by CNN Philippines, “the back rider must be an authorized person outside of residence, while the driver may not be. Both should wear face mask and full-face helmet.”

On top of that, the motorcycle should be privately owned. For locations under modified general community quarantine(MGCQ), it’s still up to the LGUs to uphold the new guidelines.

It got announced recently that Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will go back to GCQ starting today until August 31. But if cases will continue to increase, there’s a chance that, by September, some of these provinces will go back to a stricter quarantine condition.

Netizens, however, did not take the positive news lightly. Most of the reactions garnered ire from citizens who purchased expensive barriers, expecting it’ll be used for quite a while. These people are now asking for reimbursements after the government forced them to purchase barriers that won’t be needed anymore in certain areas.
