Meizu Bids Farewell to Smartphones, Embraces Full AI Integration

Meizu, the well-known Chinese tech giant, has officially pressed pause on smartphone development. The company has set its sights on the exciting realm of artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to lead the charge in shaping the next generation of cutting-edge devices.

This strategic shift follows Meizu’s successful transition in 2023 from a mere “mobile phone company” to a dynamic “ecological group.” Embracing an “All in AI” approach, the company has been making waves with its immersive multi-terminal experiences and fostering collaborations through the Unbounded Zhixing open platform. Notably, their MYVU brand has emerged as a frontrunner in the world of augmented reality (AR) glasses.

Meizu’s Chairman and CEO, Shen Ziyu, acknowledged the evolving smartphone landscape. With consumers now holding onto their devices for an average of 51 months, the market has seen a slowdown in upgrades.

In response to this trend, Meizu has made the strategic decision to bow out of the smartphone race entirely. This means bidding farewell to eagerly anticipated models like Meizu 21 Pro, Meizu 22, and Meizu 23.
