Globe Telecoms will start rolling out 5G in July 2020 that is just a week from now. It means Globe Platinum and Postpaid subscribers will be able to experience the next generation of wireless technology. The available 5G locations will start in Makati and Bonifacio Global City with plans to expand to more areas in Metro Manila and prepaid customers. According to the company, connecting to 5G will be seamless and free. The consumed data will be deducted from the allocated data of the registered plan. Connecting to 5G does not require a new SIM card as current Globe LTE SIMs are already 5G-enabled.

As of writing, Globe is offering a few 5G capable devices such as Samsung
S20, Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G, Huawei P40, and Huawei P40 Pro. Expect more and affordable 5G devices to be released soon.

“The pandemic transformed how we do everything, from how we manage businesses to how we learn, how we take care of our health, how we socialize, how we entertain ourselves. A powerful internet connection is important at this time, and Globe is ready to enable our subscribers to succeed during these trying times with the rollout of this highly-anticipated technology,” says Albert De Larrazabal, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Last year, Globe introduced the first commercial 5G network in Southeast Asia — AirFiber. It allowed the subscribers to enjoy up to 100Mbps of fiber-like speeds.
