After France banned the sale of Apple’s iPhone 12 because of worries about radio radiation, the tech giant sent the French government an update to the software.

After French officials stopped selling older iPhone 12 models because they gave off too much electromagnetic radiation, Apple had until September 27 to make changes.
French officials had said that a product recall could happen if Apple didn’t come up with a software fix for the radiation problem.
After the controversy, Apple promised to put out a software update to address the concerns that French regulators had made.
But as of right now, an official message from the ministry showing compliance with the update has not yet been sent. This is because the authorities are still carefully looking over the software patch.
After tests by France’s Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR) showed that the devices exceeded radiation exposure limits, the French government decided to stop selling iPhone 12 models.
In particular, the tests looked at the smartphone’s Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which measures how much energy a person’s body absorbs while using the device.
Accredited labs found a SAR of 5.74 watts per kilogram when the phone was held or put in a pocket, according to ANFR. Notably, this was higher than the European standard for SAR in situations like this, which is 4.0 watts per kilogram.
Apple had at first argued against the French results, saying that the iPhone 12 had been approved by several international groups as meeting global radiation standards. But in a big change of events, Apple finally agreed to release a software update that would work with the way testing is done in France.
As the French government keeps looking into the software update, we don’t know what will happen, and it’s not clear when iPhone 12 models will be available in France.
