Apple Adds More Emoji Options for iOS and OS X

According to a new developer preview builds, Apple is adding more diverse emoji options to both iOS and OS X. Included in these options are various skin color selections for emojis featuring people, faces, hands and other exposed skins. Users can choose to use the new skin tone option as alternates by clicking, tapping, or holding on any of the face, hand or people emoji. Six skin colors selection will be offer in the People section where it is applicable, which excludes the space invader, ghost, poo, skull or mask emojis.

Meanwhile, additional flag sets will be offered in the Travel & Places section of the emoji keyboard in iOS or special character palette of OS X. A total of 32 flag icons will be adde to the collection, including a range of new countries that go beyond a few European, Asian and North American choices.

Furthermore, Apple has also altered the gadgetry imaging replacing the traditional timepiece with an Apple Watch, and offering an iPhone 6 in place if the smartphone image.

Since March last year has this diversity been expect when MTV Act emailed Apple CEO Tim Cook. Then an email from Apple’s head of PR Katie Cotton stated that the company would be working with the Unicode Consortium in an effort to make more diversity a part of the standard Apple for its visual messaging icons. Google’s Mark Davis and Apple’s Peter Edberg co-edited the draft technical report published by Unicode, and now this looks like the fruit of the efforts proposed therein.

The latest builds make the extended emoji support available to any users with access to the pre-launch software.
