Netflix is issuing a test that would prevent users from sharing an account in the future.

This was first posted by GammaWire which gave a warning stating “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.” This has been present in several countries already and has acted as a warning to users who share passwords.

In the new prompt, it would give you options to either receive a text or an email to verify the account or you can choose the option to “Verify Later.” Also, there is an option for the user to create a new account.

In a comment given by Netflix to IGN, they stated that this is to ensure that the users of the account are “authorized” to use it.

As of now, the user would not be locked when the prompt appears. Also, this is currently only being tested in TV devices as well as limited to certain markets.

Although previously, Netflix usually turns a blind eye especially to users who share their passwords. It may not be illegal however this goes against the terms of service the company’s website has listed on. Also, the streaming service company listed lighter password sharing prevention which would, in turn, limit the number of devices that can stream at once.
