In Microsoft Word, if you don’t have a keyboard specially designed for typing letters with accent marks. You will have to do extra work to type these letters. Below is a list of ways to add accents to your text using keyboard shortcuts and other tools on your computer screen.

There is a possibility that if you type regularly in a language other than English. You already have this all worked out for yourself. You may even use a special keyboard that makes. Choose the font that you wish to use from the “Font” dropdown menu (or you can select the “Normal Text” entry if you want to). You can jump to specific subsets of characters by using the “Subset” dropdown menu. By scrolling through the available characters, you can see the value of the Subset changing as you scroll the available characters.
As a quick start, you might want to choose “Latin-1 Supplement” from the “Subset” dropdown menu at this point. There’s a chance that you’ll be able to find the accented letter that you are looking for in there.
You will need to select the character you want to insert into your document by clicking the “Insert” button after you choose the character you want to insert. It is helpful to note that in this window, you will find all kinds of valuable symbols that you can use throughout your work.

The keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Word are some of the best in the industry, and they are also applicable to accented characters. When you were looking at the “More Symbols” screen, you may have noticed that Word shows what the shortcut key is for that particular character at the bottom of the page.
When you type certain letter combinations, Word automatically inserts accented characters. This might seem like the easiest way to do this. But it’s not as simple as it might seem, and in practice, it’s not as helpful as it might seem.
The next step is to return to the Symbols window and select the character. You want to set up an autocorrect function. At the bottom left of the screen, you will find the “AutoCorrect” button.

Please enter the characters you want to trigger the autocorrect replacement in the “Replace” box on the right. If you are finished, click on the “Add” button, and then click on the “OK” button once you have finished.
