As mobile fraud cases continue to rise in the Philippines, 8×8, Inc. and PLDT Enterprise have launched Silent Mobile Authentication in the Philippines.
According to 8×8’s Facebook post, this aims to verify mobile users without using one-time passwords (OTPs).
How? It will be now through mobile network and SIM-based signals, allowing authentication to happen in the background without requiring users to enter codes manually.
To explain further, when a person logs in to an app or service, the platform checks the user’s mobile number in the background. It confirms with the telecom network that the SIM card is active, valid, and not recently flagged for suspicious activity.

If the details match, the user is verified instantly without needing to enter a code.
Unlike traditional SMS OTPs, which require users to manually type a verification code, Silent Mobile Authentication works quietly in the background.
The collaboration’s goal is to reduce fraud risks such as spoofed messages and SIM-swap attacks.
According to 8×8, pilot programs showed higher verification success rates and lower user drop-off compared to traditional OTP processes.
The service is available now in the Philippines through 8×8 and PLDT Enterprise. Companies can request more information or a demonstration.
