The Xiaomi Mi 5s is now official featuring a new set of features including the upgraded Snapdragon CPU, all-metal design, and improved main camera. Along with the Mi 5s is the Mi 5s Plus that packs wider display, bigger battery, and dual 13MP camera with a dedicated monochrome sensor.
Both are already priced in China and will be available starting this October 2016 with a global release including the Philippines to follow. See full specs and what’s new over the Mi 5 below.
Starting off with the design, the Xiaomi Mi 5s follows the footsteps of the Redmi Pro in aesthetics with an addition on Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The sides are slightly tapered while the antenna lines on top and bottom are visible. The ports are similar with the addition of USB Type-C and support to Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for its 3200mAh battery.
Aside from the changes externally, there’s a faster Snapdragon 821 under the hood with a promised of more power over the SD 820 chipset. The CPU is then paired with either 3GB RAM + 64GB onboard UFS 2.0 storage or a 4+128GB combination.
The camera, however, brings the new 12MP f2.0 sensor with larger pixels over the 16MP f2.0 of the Mi 5. Still, we’re eager to put the two sensors in an actual camera comparison. So stay tuned for that on our YouTube channel.
