The Xiaomi Redmi 6 and 6A was scheduled to launch today. What we didn’t expect was the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi’s latest flagship phone. Although it was launched alongside the entry level smartphones, its official release will be done at a later date.
The Mi 8 seems to sport the same chipset and camera as the previously launched Mi MIX 2S.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 features a 6.21″ FHD+ Samsung AMOLED full screen display with an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The device has a four-sided curved glass back panel along with a metal frame. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 along with an octa-core processor clocked up to 2.8GHz. The phone that will arrive comes in two variants. It will contain 6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of internal storage. The smartphone is fueled by a 3400mAh battery.
In regards to its camera setup, the Mi 8 features 12MP + 12MP AI dual rear camera and a 20MP front camera. Among its camera capabilities are AI Studio Lighting, and a 1.8µm pixel for low-lit photos.
Additional features of the smartphone include an Infrared Face Unlock which helps in face recognition even in low lighting and a dual frequency GPS.
The Mi 8 will be priced depending on its variants. The 6GB RAM + 64GB variant will be priced at Php 25,990 and the 6GB RAM + 128GB variant will be priced at Php 27,990. The handset will be available on July 30, 2018 in the authorized Mi Store.
