vivo V80 vs vivo V70 Specs Comparison

vivo just launched their newest addition to the V series, the vivo V80.

However, the newer vivo V80 introduces improvements in battery capacity, display refresh rate, software, and connectivity from the vivo V70.

Despite these upgrades, the V70 still holds some advantages, particularly in RAM and storage technology.

Here’s a closer look at how the two smartphones compare.

Design and Build

The vivo V70 and V80 feature glass back panels and IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Both also retain the same overall dimensions in terms of height and width, although the V80 is slightly thicker and heavier.

The vivo V70 measures 157.52 × 74.33 × 7.59mm and weighs 194 grams. Meanwhile, the V80 measures 157.52 × 74.33mm, with thickness varying between 7.69mm and 7.89mm depending on the color variant. It also weighs between 203 grams and 206 grams.

Both devices feature ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, although the V80 comes with the newer 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning 2.0 technology.

In terms of color options, the V70 comes in Alpine Gray and Golden Hour, while the V80 is available in Starwish Purple and Wander Green.

Display

Both smartphones feature a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2750 × 1260 pixels and a pixel density of 459 PPI.

They also share the same listed local peak brightness of 5000 nits and support the P3 wide color gamut.

The main difference is the refresh rate. The vivo V70 supports up to 120Hz, while the V80 increases this to 144Hz.

Camera

Camera hardware remains largely identical between the two devices. Both feature a 50MP ZEISS main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50MP ZEISS super telephoto camera with OIS, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

For selfies, both smartphones are equipped with a 50MP ZEISS front camera with autofocus.

Both devices also support several photography modes, including Night, Portrait, High Resolution, Astro, Supermoon, and Pro modes.

However, the V80 introduces additional camera features, including AI Creation. It also comes with a dual-color-temperature rear fill light, compared to the V70’s single-color-temperature fill light.

While the V80 offers additional camera features, the two devices have the same listed camera resolutions, apertures, and optical stabilization capabilities. Any differences in actual image quality would need to be established through camera testing.

Performance

Both the vivo V70 and V80 are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, built on a 4nm process.

They share the same octa-core CPU configuration, consisting of one core clocked at 2.8GHz, four cores at 2.4GHz, and three cores at 1.8GHz.

Despite having the same processor, the two devices differ in their memory and storage technologies.

The vivo V70 comes with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Meanwhile, the V80 offers either 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage, using LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

Based on the listed specifications, the V70 has newer and faster RAM and storage technologies. This means the V80 is not necessarily a performance upgrade across all aspects, despite being the newer model.

Both devices also support virtual RAM expansion, with the V70 offering up to 12GB and the V80 offering up to 16GB.

Battery and Charging

Battery capacity is one of the more noticeable upgrades on the vivo V80. It packs a 7,200mAh battery, compared to the V70’s 6,500mAh capacity.

This gives the V80 an additional 700mAh, or approximately 10.8% more battery capacity than its predecessor.

Despite the difference in capacity, both smartphones support 90W wired fast charging.

Price

In terms of pricing, the vivo V70 starts at PHP 31,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant, while the 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB configurations are priced at PHP 35,999 and PHP 39,999, respectively.

Meanwhile, the vivo V80 starts at PHP 42,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, with the 8GB + 256GB configuration retailing for PHP 47,999.

The V70 is notably more affordable, with its base variant costing PHP 11,000 less than the V80. Interestingly, the V70 also offers more RAM and storage options, including a 12GB + 512GB configuration.

Verdict

The vivo V80 brings several improvements over the V70, particularly in battery capacity, display refresh rate, software, and connectivity.

However, the upgrades are not across the board. Both smartphones use the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and nearly identical camera hardware.

Ultimately, the V80 is more of a refinement than a major performance upgrade and it all depends on your preference.
