One of the emerging smartphone markets in 2020 is the affordable 5G segment. In a bid to challenge Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and HiSilicon Kirin 820, Samsung released the Exynos 980 last year. However, the mid-range 5G chipset has debuted again on a non-Samsung phone, particularly the Vivo S6. The new phone will be available starting April 3 with a price of CNY 2698(~P19K) for the 8GB/128GB and CNY 2998(~P21,400) for the 256GB model. You can pick from White, Blue and Black colors.

Vivo S6 5G will go up against the recently announced Honor 30S and the jam-packed Snapdragon 765G like the Redmi K30 and Realme X50. A pretty touch competition if we have to say. Wrapped in a glass body and metal frame, Vivo S6 has a rounded camera module on the back that houses 48MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth lenses. The 6.44″ FHD+ AMOLED comes with a teardrop notch for the 32MP selfie camera, in addition to the in-display fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, both the selfie and main cameras support EIS and night mode. Even with the large 4500mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging, Vivo S6 is still a relatively light phone at 181g only. The Chinese company claims that the 3D curved surface design with thin nano-fiber polymer this possible.
The new Vivo S6 5G will have a hard time standing out in its targeted market. Its competition comes with stand out features, such as a high refresh rate or Zeiss cameras. But if it’s Exynos 980 that’s expected to stand out from this phone, the chipset should be better in both battery efficiency and performance.
