Sony has announced the LYTIA 610, a new 1/2-inch 64MP stacked CMOS image sensor for smartphone cameras. Mass production is scheduled to begin by the end of June 2026.
The new sensor introduces Sony’s RB2×2 On-Chip Lens (OCL) pixel structure, which combines two different lens layouts on a single sensor.
According to the company, this design improves image detail while maintaining fast and accurate autofocus.
Sony says the LYTIA 610 delivers more than 20% higher spatial resolution than the previous LYTIA 601, which uses the same 0.7μm pixel size. The improvement is expected to benefit telephoto cameras by capturing finer details when zooming.
The sensor also features a faster readout speed, allowing 4K video recording at up to 120fps, making it the first 1/2-inch Sony smartphone sensor to support this capability. It also supports 4K 60fps HDR video recording.
Sony has not announced which smartphone brands or upcoming devices will use the LYTIA 610 sensor. However, the Sony LYTIA 610 sensor is scheduled to enter mass production by the end of June 2026.
