Samsung Z Fold 4 VS Xiaomi MIX Fold 2: Defenders or Challengers?

Since the Samsung Z Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 were two of the first Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 foldable phones to be released this year, many people are naturally interested in finding out which one is superior. Our Z Fold 4 has just so happened to arrive.

So now it’s time to contrast the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 with the Z Fold 4.

DESIGN

We won’t debate which phone is more attractive because everyone has their own personal preferred designs. However, the design and the experience are still extremely dissimilar. The size and screen ratio are the most noticeable differences.

**

When folded, the MIX Fold 2 resembles a regular phone more. The Z Fold 4 is considerably more compact and has a lower screen width in comparison. You must have assumed that because it resembles a regular phone more and is smaller than previous folding versions, I would give the MIX Fold 2 a positive review. Obviously not! Z Fold 4’s thinner and narrower screen makes it ideal for one-handed usage. With the exception of typing, where it could be simple to hit the wrong key, utilizing an outside screen is more pleasant for regular usage because the environment is essentially outside.

**

The MIX Fold 2, on the other hand, is smaller but has a frame that does not lie flat on your hand like two steel plates. The folded experience is actually not as pleasant as the Z Fold 4 due to the bigger body and a more slick rear panel. The MIX Fold 2 unfolds into a single steel plate that adheres to your pinky finger from two steel plates when folded. similar to the Z Fold 4 in terms of weight, but with a thicker body for added comfort. So stop thinking that being skinny is wonderful since it may occasionally work against you.

DISPLAY

**

Although they are both top-of-the-line Samsung displays, and I definitely want to evaluate their screen quality, I can’t really tell the difference between them. You should select your preferred screen size and use, in my opinion. For instance, pick the MIX Fold 2 if you like a bigger screen. Choose Z Fold 4 if you like to play with just one hand. Alternately, you may select MIX Fold 2 if you don’t like the Samsung screen’s defective front lens. Z Fold 4 is more appropriate for you if you frequently need to conduct online meetings.

The hinge is still something that many people criticize, even if the Z Fold has been upgraded to the fourth generation: Why is there still a gap there?

**

Despite the fact that the cheaper MIX Fold 2 doesn’t have this issue, the Z Fold 4’s hinge is still superior. It is less useful than the Z Fold 4 since it can’t set the angle; for instance, it can’t capture time-lapse videos or stand on the table by itself. The Z Fold 4’s hinge is very rigid to enable these features, thus it takes a lot of force to unfold it.

**

To put it another way, unfolding the Z Fold 4 requires extreme caution because of the flat frame, which is like to opening a rusty door. The MIX Fold 2’s curved frame truly shines in this situation. It is very easy to open and close because to the flexible hinge. The Z Fold 4 features a tight, deep fold in contrast to the MIX Fold 2’s broad, light crease. There isn’t a loser in the hinge segment, in my opinion. Simply said, they both concentrate on different things.

PERFORMANCE, BENCHMARKS & GAMING

***

Samsung smartphones have never been known for their performance, but based only on benchmark results, the Z Fold 4 appears to be highly powerful, and the MIX Fold 2 achieves a fairly similar result. Scores, however, do not reveal all; you must still play a few games to fully grasp a player’s performance. Samsung, however, managed to catch us off guard with an entirely different game performance and score. The MIX Fold 2 outperformed the Z Fold 4 in huge 3D games, while the Z Fold 4 didn’t even come close to matching that performance. Furthermore, we didn’t test it at Sumeru; as a result, the performance would have been significantly lower under a more challenging testing environment. Therefore, the MIX Fold 2 is a better option if you enjoy playing large games like Genshin.

***

Although Z Fold 4’s frame rate is worse to MIX Fold 2’s, it does have one advantage over that game. The clarity in Genshin Impact is obviously much greater than MIX Fold 2 because it is set to the highest graphics. As a result, you have the option to play with lesser graphics, and MIX Fold 2 quality will not be affected. The frame rate did increase after our test, however MIX Fold 2 still outperforms it. In any case, it has now crossed the pass line.

Only the HDR Graphics 60 fps setting is available for both versions of PUBG Mobile. There is not much to say about them because they both perform identically.

CAMERAS

Two Leica settings are available on the MIX Fold 2, and we decided to compare LEICA VIBRANT. Because of the other mode’s significant filter effect, LEICA VIBRANT’s colors are more similar to those of a conventional phone.

**

A primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera make up the camera system on both phones. Since they both act equally in most moments, it’s difficult for me to say which one is superior. I can only describe the techniques they use in particular scenarios. For instance, the Z Fold 4’s photographs have a warmer white balance than the MIX Fold 2’s, which is colder. The ultra-wide camera on the Z Fold 4 can shoot brighter pictures in very low light, but you have to hold the phone still for 7 seconds. Even though the MIX Fold 2 is less brilliant, it just takes three seconds.

**

Additionally, the Z Fold 4 sports a larger ultra-wide angle camera and a 3x optical lens as opposed to a 2x in the MIX Fold 2. Therefore, Z Fold 4 will have a wider focal length coverage. The Z Fold 4 is not noticeably fuzzy even at a 5x magnification, while the MIX Fold 2 has changed into an oil painting. I personally choose the Z Fold 4 camera system since it has a wider lens, which can help you produce more distinctive photographs.

Samsung is without a doubt superior in terms of utilizing this large screen to its best potential. This time, One UI 4.0 is quite accommodating to foldable phones; in contrast, the UI on MIX FOLD is undercooked. The operating logic of the Mix Fold 2 is identical to that of the majority of Xiaomi phones; even the split screen capability can only be divided into left and right sections and cannot be adjusted in size. The Z Fold 4 does not have these issues, and One UI introduced a task bar design that is reminiscent of a PC. Additionally, the Type C connection can handle video output, making this folding phone more similar to a little PC.Oh, and the Z Fold 4 does have a stylus, but Xiaomi does not support it. Samsung’s foldable phone software, in my opinion, is unquestionably superior to Xiaomi’s. I think we can all agree on this.

CHARGING & BATTERY

***

Compared to the Z Fold 4, the MIX Fold 2’s 67w wired charging capability charges devices significantly more quickly. The charging times are 45 and 65 minutes, respectively. Although the Z Fold 4 isn’t as powerful, you can always keep it fully charged thanks to wireless charging.

**

Since the battery capacity and chip are same for both, the potential battery life shouldn’t change your decision because it should be similar. By the way, a 33w charger and a charging cable are included with the purchase of the Z Fold 4. But with with your MIX Fold 2 purchase, you’ll also receive a lovely cover and a screen film for the outside screen.

**

The two phones are extremely similar when comparing their specifications alone. However, there are some situations in which judging someone’s quality only by their resume is impossible. We’ve outlined their benefits and drawbacks based on our testing and real-world experience to determine whether you can live with them.

In my opinion, the Z Fold 4 is the most highly recommended folding phone among all of them, provided that you can afford it. If you don’t care about MIX Fold 2’s flaws, it’s actually not that horrible; the competition this time around is just too strong.
