Aside from the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra, the South Korean company also announced the Galaxy Z Flip that will retail in the Philippines for P79,990 (pre-order now available). Unlike Moto Razr 2019, Samsung’s second folding phone uses a very thin glass for the display and features flagship-grade specs. It runs on Snapdragon 855+ with 8GB RAM and 256GB non-expandable UFS 3.0 storage. That said, it’s probably the first official flagship Snapdragon Samsung device in the country as we always get the Exynos counterpart. Diving into the spec sheet, here’s what to expect.
Galaxy Z Flip has 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED with 1080p+ resolution. Another display is on the back of the folding phone, featuring 1.1″ Super AMOLED that’s Always-on and covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Additionally, you can use it as a mini-viewfinder for the main cameras by double pressing on the power button(when lid is closed). As mentioned, the main screen uses glass material. Although glass technically doesn’t fold, the thin profile allows it to be but the crease still lives on. In comparison to plastic folding screens like the original Galaxy Fold, glass-based is resistive to scratches and overall more durable.
With the vertical folding screen, each half can work simultaneously for better multitasking. For example, the top half acts as a viewfinder for the camera while the bottom half lets you scroll through the menus.
Going back to the specs, the main cameras use two 12MP sensors — wide and ultrawide. It can record up to 4K @ 60fps with HDR10+ support. While the 10MP f2.4 selfie camera can record up to 30fps of the same resolution. There’s no headphone jack but the stereo speakers are AKG tuned. Charging the combined 3300mAh battery is still through USB-C, but wireless charging is possible at 15W. The colors of Galaxy Z Flip are Mirror Black, Mirror Purple, and Mirror Gold.
