Putting the two midrange device side-by-side — the Galaxy A8s makes the Galaxy A9 2019 like a phone from yesteryear. Despite the absence of the notch from the latter, the bezels around the display are just too thick in comparison to the Infinity-O display of the former.

The Galaxy A8s could be the perfect embodiment of a Samsung phone if not only for its IPS LCD panel (probably to cut the cost) as opposed to the Super AMOLED of the Galaxy A9 2019.

For the performance, the Snapdragon 710 of the Galaxy A8s is significantly better and more efficient combined with the latest Android 9.0 Pie. Clearly, software belongs to the latest midrange device.

The balance will start to tip to the Galaxy A9 2018 with its quad-camera setup — 24MP + 8MP (ultrawide) + 10MP (telephoto) + 5MP (depth). On the other hand, the Galaxy A8s has three sensors — 24MP + 10MP + 5MP depth sensor. Neither of the three can do wide or telephoto.

Decision-making will be a bit easier for selfies as both feature 24MP selfie camera with only post-processing separating the two in quality.

Although we’re starting to see more USB Type-C headphones, the Galaxy A9 2018 still sports a headphone jack. Moreover, it’ll last you longer in a day as it has a higher 3800mAh battery.

While there’s no official price yet for the Galaxy A8s, we’re expecting it to start around $500 or Php26,000+ but as for the Galaxy A9 2019, it’s already selling for Php32,990.

Given the price difference and the things that we’ve talked about, the Galaxy A9 2019 is a tough pill to swallow. Unless you’re willing to spend that much for the flexibility of its camera, we suggest that you stick with the better-looking and performing Galaxy A8s.
