Samsung Display has introduced a new tandem OLED display for premium laptops that supports the new VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification.
The new display can deliver up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness at the panel level, exceeding the 1,400-nit requirement of the new VESA standard.
It also offers true black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower, providing higher contrast and improved HDR performance.
Compared to conventional single-stack OLED panels, which typically reach around 1,100 nits of peak brightness, Samsung says its tandem OLED display is more than 40% brighter.
The display uses a tandem OLED architecture, which stacks two organic light-emitting layers instead of one.
According to Samsung Display, this design improves light efficiency, allowing the panel to achieve higher brightness while reducing the workload on each layer. The company also says this helps extend the display’s lifespan, with the tandem OLED panel lasting more than twice as long as a conventional single-stack OLED panel under typical laptop usage.
Samsung will showcase the new tandem OLED laptop display at K-Display 2026, which will take place in Seoul, South Korea, from July 22 to 24.
The first device to feature the new display and receive VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification is the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition.
Samsung Display added that laptops from ASUS, Dell Technologies, and MSI using the new tandem OLED panel are expected to launch between the second half of 2026 and 2027.
