Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 officially announced

Aside from the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm also introduced its latest mid-range processor called the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC.

The new chipset is built on the 4nm Samsung Process Technology. It is an octa-core processor consisting of 1x Kryo Prime CPUs (A710-based) at up to 2.4GHz, 3x Kryo Performance CPUs (A710-based) at up to 2.36GHz, 4x Kryo Efficiency CPUs (A510-based) at up to 1.8GHz. For graphics, it has Adreno 662 GPU.

Qualcomm claims that the new chip handles graphics 20% faster than the Snapdragon 778G while AI tasks perform 30% better on the new platform.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 also offers several firsts to the SD 7 series including Qualcomm’s dedicated AI Engine, up to 200MP mega-capture with the Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP, and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions.

For photo and video, it can record 4K HDR video, 10-bit HEIC photo capture, and HEVC video recording. There’s also the 7th gen Qualcomm AI Engine with Deep Learning Face Detect, based on 300 facial landmarks, and allows for more accurate autofocus, even while wearing a mask.

The said processor also supports Quad HD+ Display and Snapdragon Sound Technology. Connectivity features include the Snapdragon X62 5G modem, Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX support.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Mobile Platform will power devices from leading global OEMs and brands including HONOR, OPPO, and Xiaomi, with commercial devices expected to be available in Q2 2022.

OPPO’s Reno8 Pro, which will be announced on May 23, is expected to feature the new chipset.
