Filipino medical professionals and netizens have been discussing about the surge in COVID-19 cases. Dr. Benjamin Co, an expert in infectious diseases, issued an important reminder on social media X (formerly Twitter). He emphasized the critical importance of wearing face masks, especially in crowded spaces or healthcare facilities.

Individuals are now urged to wear masks if experiencing respiratory symptoms and to stay home if running a fever. Not to mention that concerns have been raised as Singapore is also experiencing a rise in cases linked to COVID-19 subvariants.

According to reports, the surge in SIngapore is linked to the emergence of COVID-19 subvariants known as “FLiRT,” named after their mutation letters.

Meanwhile, Dr. Co shared some important reminders with the public based on his observations of the COVID-19 situation in the country. He emphasized the importance of wearing masks for those exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, advising them to stay home if they have a fever, urging individuals who’ve been in contact with a confirmed case to get tested if they show symptoms, and stressing the need to stay hydrated.

Former ABSCBN News Data Analytics Head Edson Guido disclosed that from May 7 to 13, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 877 new cases, excluding antigen tests. The DOH continues to stress the importance of wearing face masks as a preventive measure.

Online users shared personal sentiments, with one nurse highlighting the swift appearance of COVID-19 cases in the emergency room following the announcement of increasing numbers.

The Department of Health acknowledged the increase but reassured the public that all regions remain at low risk. While noting a slight increase in cases, they stated that it wasn’t significant enough to warrant travel restrictions.
