OPPO Reno 2 launched: Penta Cameras, Snapdragon 730G, P22k price

As scheduled, OPPO launched the Reno 2 Series in New Delhi, India. It’s the successor to the Reno Series that was locally released a few months ago. The new lineup is comprised of three models — Reno 2, Reno 2Z, and Reno 2F. The top-end model Reno 2 comes with a price of Rs. 36,990 or nearly P27k, while Reno 2Z will retail for Rs. 29,990 or nearly P22k. It remains to be seen for the price of Reno 2F, however, it’s considered as the least expensive of the three.

OPPO Reno 2 features a Snapdragon 730G chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, making it a very capable gaming handset. It uses Dynamic AMOLED panel which is found on Samsung’s S10 and Note 10 series. The display, however, is of 6.5″ FHD+ resolution. Like the predecessor, you’ll find 4000mAh battery, optical in-screen fingerprint scanner, 20W VOOC 3.0 flash charging, and an audio jack.

The camera is the highlight of Reno 2, featuring four cameras on the back and a single shark-fin pop-up for selfies. Within the pop-up mechanism are LED front flash and 16MP sensor. As for the main cameras, it’s led by a 48MP Sony sensor with the addition of 8MP ultrawide, 13MP telephoto, and 2MP monochrome sensor. Furthermore, there’s added Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) that delivers better Ultra Steady Video.

While an earlier teaser photo suggested Reno 2 with 20x Zoom, we thought it’s going to be as impressive as the flagship Reno 10x Zoom. Instead, we get a hybrid 20x Zoom. In India, Reno 2 will start shipping on September 20.

In the case of Reno 2Z, the screen is now using an AMOLED panel. It also ditches the shark-fin camera for a centered pop-up mechanism. While it still houses the same 16MP selfie sensor, it looks like you will be missing out on a front LED flash. With the same amount of RAM and storage as the Reno 2, the chipset now uses an Helio P90 instead.

As for the main cams, the telephoto gets swapped out for a 2MP portrait lens. Otherwise, it’s the same set of cameras without OIS support. Reno 2Z will be available on September 6 in India.

Last and least is Reno 2F sporting an Helio P70 chipset with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It has the same four main cameras as the Reno 2Z, however, the 48MP sensor is of Samsung ISOCELL GM1. The design on the back seems a bit different due to the vertical pattern. It reminded us of the Garlic and Onion editions of Realme X.
