One of the hottest innovations today is the fifth generation of wireless communications technologies supporting cellular data networks, or simply 5G. As more and more phones get released with 5G capability, OPPO, a leading global smart device brand, has been working with MediaTek and Ericsson to deliver a faster and stronger connection to you. As of recent, the three giant companies accomplished Voice/Video on New Radio (VoNR) over 5G. Through an OPPO modified commercial smartphone with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 SoC, the calls were made using an end-to-end 5G standalone(SA) network by Ericsson Radio System products and solutions.

Andy Wu, OPPO’s Vice President and President of Software Engineering Business Unit, said, “As a leading global technology company, OPPO proactively works to accelerate large-scale commercialization of 5G. Our cooperation with Ericsson and MediaTek on VoNR is part of our in-depth collaborations in the 5G era. We aim to become the industry’s ideal partner to deploy 5G around the world and at the same time improve 5G experience for the users.”

The joint test was done at Ericsson’s headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, wherein two phones were instantly connected and had no problem seamlessly switching to video calls with a single press.

“MediaTek is committed to giving consumers an unparalleled 5G experience via innovative technology. As a strategic partner of OPPO, we are helping develop a superior device experience for 5G voice and video calls,” said JS Pan, general manager of Wireless System Design and Partnership at MediaTek.
