Design and Display

It’s a matter of preference whether you like OPPO’s single gradient color or Samsung’s iridescent patterned hue. But it’s worth noting that Galaxy A50s has the lighter and thinner build of the two.

Both OPPO A9 2020 and Samsung Galaxy A50s feature a thick chin bezel with a teardrop notch. However, display quality is far better on Samsung’s phone as it comes with Super AMOLED panel and a crispy FHD+ resolution.

Performance

With Snapdragon 665 on OPPO and Exynos 9611 on Samsung, neither of the two was able to gain a huge lead. Their performance is nearly equal which means the difference lies in software optimization of ColorOS 6 and One UI. Based on experience, OPPO’s skin performs faster and smoother than Samsung’s skin when using mid-range chipsets.

We also want to mention that OPPO A9 2020 comes with 8GB RAM already, as opposed to the 6GB RAM on Galaxy A50s. This should give you extra headroom to use in the future, especially when an app is RAM intensive or you find yourself doing multiple tasks on a phone.

Cameras

For the most part, you will have the same camera versatility on either phone — main, ultrawide, and depth. But OPPO A9 2020 steps it up with an added monochrome sensor, although not user enabled, it allows for more detail on the images. Furthermore, video recording should be smoother as the main sensor comes with gyro-EIS.

As for selfie cameras, Galaxy A50s has a slight advantage due to the larger sensor and a wider field-of-view.

Battery and Charging

OPPO A9 2020 is made to last with its gigantic 5000mAh battery. It’s even capable of reverse charging via its MicroUSB port. Yep, it still uses that old port. To further add insult, charging is rated at a standard and slow 10W. On the flip side, Galaxy A50s may be coming with less generous 4000mAh but it already supports USB Type-C and 15W fast adaptive charging.

Conclusion

If we’re to recommend each phone, we love the extra offerings of OPPO A9 2020. It’s a great phone for those who just want pretty pictures and long-lasting battery life. But if you’re a geek, the Galaxy A50s is the right choice for you. It has a better screen quality and true mid-range features like fast charging, and under-screen scanner.
