OpenAI has started rolling out its Health in ChatGPT feature and has made it widely available in the United States.
The Health in ChatGPT feature provides users with deeper context on their medical data by integrating health records, Apple Health, and supported wellness apps into a single platform. This also allows the chatbot to keep track of what has changed and have more informed, personalized conversations.
According to OpenAI, over 300 million people use ChatGPT for health-related questions every week. The company added that health data is often scattered across patient portals, medical records, apps, and wearables, making it difficult to view complete health context.
With the user’s permission, ChatGPT can reference their connected health data to track changes over time, compare test results, and analyze how sleep and activity impact their overall routine.
OpenAI emphasizes that this feature is not meant to diagnose or treat medical conditions and should not replace medical professionals.
The company assures users that connected health data, Apple Health information, and related chat histories will not be used to train its AI models or target advertisements. Users retain complete control over when ChatGPT accesses their data and can disconnect it at any time.
Health in ChatGPT is currently rolling out to logged-in U.S. users aged 18 and above across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro tiers. The feature is accessible on the web and iOS, though it is not yet supported on Codex.
