OpenAI recently unveiled its latest GPT 5.6 family of AI models, consisting of AI models called Sol, Terra and Luna.

Each model is made for different needs, giving users the flexibility to choose between top-tier power, balanced performance, or lower cost.
GPT‑5.6 Sol is the flagship model that said to be the most capable. It outperforms the other models in benchmark testings related to cybersecurity, biology, and agentic abilities. It is said to feature OpenAI’s strongest AI safety protections yet. Having been develop with a “layered safeguard stack,” Sol is trained to refuse prohibited cyber assistance or cyberattacks and other malicious behaviours.
GPT-5.6 Terra, on the other hand, is a balanced model for everyday work and delivers competitive performance similar to GPT‑5.5 while costing half as much. Meanwhile, GPT-5.6 Luna is the fast and affordable version.
OpenAI also highlighted a new naming system introduced with GPT‑5.6. The number identifies a model’s generation, while Sol, Terra, and Luna identify different capability tiers.

Pricing for GPT-5.6 is calculated per million tokens across its three tiers: input and output rates are set at USD 5 and USD 30 for Sol, USD 2.50 and USD 15 for Terra, and USD 1 and USD 6 for Luna.
The GPT-5.6 model lineup is currently accessible via an exclusive preview for select partners. OpenAI plans to make the models generally available in the coming weeks.
