After smartphones, and headphones, Nokia is now entering the notebook business. The Finns don’t do it themselves, but with the help of the French start-up Off Global. Announced on February 24th, the Nokia PureBook Pro is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2022 in 22 countries across the globe.
The notebook looks itself as a cheap but chic model that comes with decent hardware equipment. At the market launch, it comes in two sizes: 15.6 and 17.3 inches. Otherwise, the two variants only differ in that the larger model has a number field.
The PureBook Pro is powered by a 12th generation Intel Core processor (i3-1220P), which offers a total of ten cores: two performance and eight efficiency cores. According to Off Global, slightly better variants could follow later, which will be equipped with an i5 processor and iGPU, among other things. The main memory is 8GB RAM (DDR4, 2,666 MHz), the M.2 SSD is 512GB. Both the RAM and the SSD can be upgraded.
The display is an IPS panel with Full HD and a maximum brightness of 250 nits. The integrated webcam has 2MP, and the keyboard is backlit. There are also no surprises when it comes to the connections: two USB-C ports and one USB-A port according to USB 3.2 should be enough. The PureBook Pro is charged via USB-C. At least there is a slot for a microSD card and a fingerprint sensor. Four speakers are installed for the sound, but there is currently no further information on their performance. You can network the PureBook Pro with Wi-Fi (802.11ac) and the outdated Bluetooth 5.0.
When it comes to battery life, Off Global specifies ten hours in everyday use for both models. The actual battery life is likely to be slightly less. The small variant is equipped with a battery with 57 Wh, the large with 67 Wh. Although Off Global has mobile users in mind, both models are not lightweight: The PureBook Pro 15 weighs 1.7 kilograms, the Pro 17 even 2, 5 kilograms. Both models are almost two centimeters thick.
