Design and Display

Glass vs polycarbonate — that’s the main difference between the two phones. Nokia 7.2 provides that premium feeling in the hands even with a polycarbonate frame. Unlike the Galaxy A50s, the back panel is polycarbonate which the company likes to call “glass-tic”. You might notice HMD Global’s phone to be thicker in bezels and heftier in weight.

As for the displays, Samsung takes the lead with its honest-to-goodness Super AMOLED. But if you can overlook that part, Nokia has a couple of unique offerings at its price point — HDR10 and Always-on display. The former feature allows for higher peak brightness when playing HDR content.

Performance

The Galaxy A50s is using a more efficient and updated chipset in the Exynos 9611 based on 11nm. While Nokia 7.2 is rocking an older Snapdragon 660 based on the 14nm process, the pairing of Android One means no bloatware and maximized performance. Expect Samsung’s device to deliver better gaming performance and Nokia’s phone to provide smoother day-to-day tasks.

Cameras

The triple camera setup of the two is identical, except with the Nokia 7.2 featuring Zeiss’ touch. We know how Samsung cameras operate — leaning towards softer side with good amount of colors and saturation. But Zeiss influence is said to be on par with Pixel 3’s camera — arguably one of the best photo cameras right now. If you want to see a comparison between the two, let us know in the comment section.

Moving towards the selfie camera, Nokia has that Zeiss optics 20MP f2.0 sensor while Samsung has a larger 32MP f2.0 sensor that most likely uses pixel-binning to output 8MP equivalent photos.

Battery and Charging

The Galaxy A50s has an updated battery and charging technologies as it features 4000mAh capacity and 15W fast adaptive charging. While Nokia 7.2 is stuck with 10W charging and a decent 3500mAH battery, let’s not forget that it’s running on a very optimized vanilla Android version. This means only essential apps only run in the background.

Conclusion

If you’re not looking to play games, we do recommend getting the Nokia 7.2. For a cheaper price, you’re getting great design quality, good cameras, and flagship-grade features, such as HDR10 and Always-on Display. It’s still too early to tell if Nokia 7.2 can dethrone Samsung Galaxy A50s. Perhaps, a review comparison should be done?
