Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the new Tesla Roadster will have flying capabilities. This statement has attracted a lot of attention, although Musk didn’t provide further details.
The Tesla Roadster was first introduced seven years ago during Tesla’s Semi and Roadster event. Since then, many have been waiting for its release. This new Roadster is intended to succeed the 2008 Roadster, which was based on the Lotus Elise. The original Roadster marked Tesla’s entry into the electric car market.
Tesla Roadster Features
The Roadster was initially promoted as having an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 1.9 seconds. While this was impressive at the time, other Tesla and Lucid models now have similar or better speeds. Some supercars can achieve 0-62 mph in just 1.7 seconds.
In 2021, Musk stated that the new Roadster could go from 0-62 mph in 1.1 seconds. This would be possible with a special SpaceX option package, including up to 10 small rocket thrusters around the car. Musk first mentioned the possibility of a flying Roadster in 2018.
Tesla Roadster Price.
If everything proceeds as planned, the Tesla Roadster should be released this year and enter production in 2025.
The starting price was initially set at $200,000, but Tesla has not confirmed the current price.
