Samsung has announced that its Samsung Messages app will be discontinued this year.
Users will no longer be able to send messages through the app, except for emergency contacts and services.
The company is advising users to switch to Google Messages to continue messaging on Android devices.
Google Messages supports Rich Communication Services (RCS), allowing users to send high-quality photos and videos, view typing indicators, and use enhanced group chats.

It also includes spam protection and AI-based features such as smart replies.
According to Samsung, users may receive in-app notifications with instructions on how to switch. The app can also be set manually as the default SMS app after downloading it from the Play Store.

However, for users with devices running Android 11 or older, note that they are not affected by the change.
The company added that older Galaxy Watches running Tizen OS will have limited messaging functionality after the discontinuation, though basic texting will still be supported.
Samsung Messages will also no longer be available to use and download on the Galaxy Store after July 2026.
