Discord has increased its free file upload limit from 10MB to 20MB.
Discord is also changing how it checks file sizes on iOS and Android. Previously, mobile uploads could be checked after compression. The platform will now measure the file size before compression, matching its existing approach on desktop.
This means the impact will vary by device. Desktop users should generally have an easier time uploading files, while iOS and Android users may reach the 20MB limit more often because files are typically larger before compression.
Users can upload various file types, including JPEG, PDF, MP3, MOV, and MP4. Discord supports MP4 videos encoded with H.264, HEVC/H.265, or AV1.
The new limit takes effect on August 14, 2026, and applies to free users, while the upload limits for Nitro subscribers remain higher.
