Google has temporarily disabled its new AI image generation feature in Google Earth just one day after launching it, following reports of people creating and sharing images that appeared to break its policies.
The feature, powered by Nano Banana 2, allowed users to generate custom images using Google Earth’s satellite, aerial, and 3D maps.
By selecting a location and entering a text prompt, users could visualize ideas such as historical landmarks in the past, redesigned neighborhoods, future city concepts, or proposed building projects.
Google said the tool was mainly intended for useful purposes, including education, urban planning, architecture, and real estate visualization. It also allowed users to create AI-generated infographics about famous landmarks.
However, on July 31, Google announced that it is rolling back the feature while it works on stronger safety measures.
Google has not yet announced when it will become available again.
