PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications announced that they will block over 100 websites hosting or streaming footage of school shootings and extreme violence.

The initiative is part of their ongoing effort to safeguard their networks, aiming to protect children and young users from growing exposure to harmful digital content.
“This is something we do not tolerate,” said PLDT Chief Operating Officer Butch Jimenez. “We have decided to ban these kinds of sites preemptively, as soon as they are discovered. Our networks will not be used as a channel for content that glorifies violence and puts our communities, especially our children, at risk.”
The telco said that its blocklist will expand dynamically as new domains are identified through internal monitoring and cross-sector collaboration with government bodies, child welfare groups, and community organizations.
The restrictions are enforced at the network level, rendering the targeted sites fully inaccessible across all PLDT and Smart connections.
“There is no debate to be had here,” Jimenez added. “Content that turns real-world violence into entertainment has no place on our networks and in our society, and we will keep acting decisively every time we find it.”
This action expands PLDT’s ongoing online safety programs, which already filter out websites containing child sexual abuse material across its network.
