Google Introduces Eclipsa Video HDR Standard for Android 17

Google has announced Eclipsa Video, a new HDR video standard that aims to make HDR videos look more consistent across different devices.

Eclipsa Video is designed to help supported devices display videos with more consistent brightness, colors, and contrast.

The new format is based on the open SMPTE ST 2094-50 standard, which Google developed with Apple and NBCUniversal.

Google says Eclipsa Video offers:

Eclipsa Video is built into Android 17, allowing supported phones, tablets, and TVs with compatible HDR displays to play and record videos using the new standard.
