Xiaomi 17 Review

Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi has officially launched the new Xiaomi 17 Series in the Philippines. We have the base model, the Xiaomi 17, in our hands.

With a starting price of under PHP 55,000, you might be wondering what it offers at that price. Well, read on to find out.

Design and Build

Just like any other review, we’ll start with the design. What we have for this review is the Xiaomi 17 in Venture Green, though it’s also available in three other colors, which are Black, Alpine Pink, and Ice Blue.

The green color we have looks clean and refreshing. It’s not the usual color we see on smartphones, but it’s not too loud either, it stands out nicely without being over the top.

The device is 8.06 mm thick and weighs 191 grams. In our experience, it feels comfortable in the hand. It wasn’t difficult to use one-handed, though of course, hand sizes vary, so your experience may differ.

For the build, the front uses Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal glass, paired with an aluminum frame. The SIM card tray, charging port, and speaker grille are all located at the bottom, while the volume rockers and power button are on the right.

Overall, the build feels premium and solid, giving a true flagship impression.

Display

Now, onto the display. Specs-wise, the Xiaomi 17 offers a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panel with 3500 nits peak brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

In our experience, the colors are vibrant, and watching videos feels immersive.

We also didn’t have any issues using the phone outdoors, as the brightness is more than enough for clear visibility in sunlight.

Overall, it’s a great device for entertainment too.

Camera

Next are the cameras. On paper, the Xiaomi 17 has a triple rear camera setup with Leica optics.

The main camera is 50MP with an ƒ/1.67 aperture and OIS, the telephoto lens is 50MP with a 60mm focal length, ƒ/2.0 aperture, and OIS, and the ultra-wide camera is 50MP with an ƒ/2.4 aperture and a 102° field of view. For selfies, it has a 50MP front camera.

In our experience, both the back and front cameras perform very well.

Photos come out vivid and detailed, with a wide dynamic range, and portrait shots look polished, as the camera accurately separates the subject from the background.

The Xiaomi 17 can also record videos up to 8K at 30fps, which makes it a strong option for content creators who want high-quality footage straight from their phone.

Performance

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

In our experience, the device delivers smooth and fast performance, even when running multiple apps at the same time. For gaming, both casual and heavy titles are playable without issues. Content creators will also appreciate its capability for photo and video editing, handling even demanding tasks with ease.

Overall, we did not encounter any problems during our use, and the Xiaomi 17 performs reliably in daily tasks and intensive workloads alike.

Benchmark Results (from our testing):

  • AnTuTu Benchmark: 3,270,085
  • Geekbench 6 CPU: 3,128 (single-core) / 9,030 (multi-core)
  • Geekbench 6 OpenCL: 23,457
  • Geekbench 6 Vulkan: 26,963
  • 3DMark Wild Life: Maxed out

These numbers show that the Xiaomi 17 delivers top-tier performance, capable of handling gaming, multitasking, and content creation with ease.

Battery and Charging

Now, onto the battery. The Xiaomi 17 packs a 6,330mAh battery with:

  • 100W wired HyperCharge
  • 50W wireless charging

In our experience, casual use and multimedia playback drained about 14% of the battery in one hour.

A full day of use, including continuous video and photo shooting or streaming, may drain the battery faster, so you might need to charge it by the end of the day.

However, keep in mind that the Xiaomi 17 is a flagship device with a powerful processor, bright display, and other features that consume battery.

Despite its large 6,330mAh capacity, it may not last a full day under heavy usage, but fast wired and wireless charging kind of make it easy to top up.

Price and Verdict

The Xiaomi 17 is available in two variants in the Philippines.

  • 12GB + 256GB: PHP 53,999 (online exclusive)
  • 12GB + 512GB: PHP 55,999

Overall, the Xiaomi 17 offers a true compact flagship experience, delivers good camera results, enjoyable entertainment, and great gaming performance.

As mentioned earlier, battery performance will, of course, vary depending on how you use the device, but in the end, everything is solid, and you can do everything you need.
