An Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max has been placed inside a US time capsule that will stay sealed for the next 250 years.
Along with the phone, the capsule contains different items from across the US, including historical objects, artwork, written works, and digital files that show what life was like in 2026.
Because the phone will remain sealed for centuries, it is unlikely to still work when the capsule is opened.
Its battery is expected to fail long before then. However, if future technology can access its storage, the files inside may still be recovered.
The time capsule is part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebration and is planned to be opened in 2276, when the United States marks its 500th anniversary.
