Apple to Debut In-House 5G Modem in 2025

Apple is advancing in the development of its own 5G modem, aiming to reduce reliance on Qualcomm.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it is expected to begin using the in-house modem in 2025, starting with devices like the iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 17 Air, with an estimated shipment of 35-40 million units.

Apple iPhone 17 Air?

If you recall, we previously discussed about the iPhone 17 Air. Now, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 series might bring some exciting changes. There are rumors about a new, ultra-thin model that could be called the “iPhone 17 Air.” This model is expected to be even slimmer than previous versions like the mini or Plus, which could make it very appealing due to its sleek design.

By 2027, this could rise to 180 million units. This shift could impact Qualcomm’s chip sales, though their licensing deal with Apple remains in place until 2027.

The brand may also integrate its modem with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, potentially boosting device performance and battery life.

How do you feel about Apple creating its own 5G modem? Do you think it will improve iPhone performance?
