YouTube is updating its Shorts recommendation system to prioritize original content and reduce the reach of videos simply reuploaded from other creators.
According to YouTube, channels that mainly aggregate or repost videos without making significant changes may see lower distribution in the Shorts feed.
The update is intended to favor content that provides viewers with something new or useful.
Creators can still use clips from other videos, but YouTube said they should add meaningful original elements, such as commentary, unique editing, storytelling, or their own perspective.
YouTube also warned against making only minor technical changes or using repetitive templates just to make reposted content appear different.
