WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new Restricted Chats feature on iOS.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is available to some users running WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.39.10.20 through TestFlight.
Restricted Chats can be enabled from a chat’s info screen. Once activated, the feature applies several restrictions to the conversation, including:
- Media from the chat cannot be automatically saved to the device gallery.
- The conversation cannot be exported.
- Meta AI features cannot be used in the restricted chat.
- The chat cannot be accessed through linked devices.
- AI agents connected through another participant’s linked device cannot access the conversation.
For now, Restricted Chats only support individual conversations.
The feature is still in beta and is being gradually rolled out, so it may not be available to all TestFlight users yet.
