Qualcomm is gearing up to launch its upcoming top-of-the-line processor this year—the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
Ahead of its launch, leaks have already surfaced online revealing that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could reach more than 5GHz of clock speed.
According to popular tipster Digital Chat Station, ARM’s new CPU core will have higher efficiency with lower clock speeds, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 aims for higher clock speeds.
This supports the recent leak that Qualcomm and ARM are utilizing different strategies for future smartphone processors.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is being tested at frequencies around 5GHz, while an overclocked version could reach 5.3GHz
The tipster added that these frequencies are only being tested to validate the design, and the final speeds will depend on performance and efficiency.
Nonetheless, the upcoming Qualcomm processor is still expected to be faster than its predecessor, which runs at 4.32GHz in the regular version and 4.47GHz in the overclocked version—currently the highest in the mobile segment. The record was previously held by Apple’s 2024 iPad Pros with M4 chips at 4.40GHz.
Moreover, the SD Elite 2 is rumored to integrate second-gen Oryon cores, claimed to be 25 percent faster, and an Adreno 840 GPU with more cache and with a 30 percent performance increase.
On the other hand, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 will reportedly be slower than its predecessors, with its prime core at 3.23GHz.
We may see Qualcomm’s next flagship processor launch earlier, as the Snapdragon Summit has been moved to September 23-25 compared to last year’s October launch.
Stay tuned for more updates.
