OPPO just launched a new addition to its Reno Series in the Philippines, and one of them is the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G.
While the new device shares several specifications with its predecessor, the OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G, there are still some notable changes worth covering.
Curious to know what they are and whether they’re worth the price difference?
Let’s start with the new device, the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G.
The device has a thickness of 8.36mm with a weight of about 191 grams.
On the other hand, the Reno15 Pro 5G is almost the same in terms of width and height but is slightly thinner at 8.13mm and lighter at about 188 grams.
OPPO also lists IP69K water and dust resistance for the Reno16 Series. Moreover, it uses OPPO’s 3D Pop Planet Design, which adds a three-dimensional effect to the rear panel.
The Reno15 Pro 5G features an Aurora Vitality design with OPPO Glow textures that create a changing light effect as the phone moves. The Reno15 Pro 5G also has a Dynamic Stellar Ring around its rear camera module.
Both the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G and Reno15 Pro 5G feature a 6.32-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 2640 × 1216 resolution.. Both displays have a typical brightness of 600 nits and HBM brightness of 1,800 nits.
The Reno16 Pro 5G supports refresh rates of up to 144Hz, although the 144Hz mode is limited to certain gaming scenarios.
The Reno15 Pro 5G has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Both have a maximum touch sampling rate of 240Hz. The Reno16 Pro 5G uses Crystal Guard, while the Reno15 Pro 5G uses Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
The OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G and Reno15 Pro 5G have the same rear camera setup, consisting of a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera. Both phones also have a 50MP f/2.0 autofocus front camera.
Both models support up to 4K video recording at 60fps from the rear camera and up to 4K at 60fps from the front camera.
The OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G is powered by the Dimensity 8550 SUPER with an eight-core CPU and ARM G720 MC8 GPU clocked at up to 1.5GHz. It comes with 12GB of physical LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 with an eight-core CPU and ARM G720 MC7 GPU clocked at up to 1.3GHz. It comes with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Both phones run on ColorOS 16.0 and do not support expandable storage through a storage card. Both support USB OTG.
As for the battery, the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G has a 6,700mAh battery. The Reno15 Pro 5G has a 6,200mAh battery.
Both phones support up to 80W SUPERVOOC charging. The Reno16 Pro 5G also supports up to 80W UFCS charging and 44W third-party UFCS, while the Reno15 Pro 5G supports 55W PPS and 13.5W PD charging.
Both the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G and Reno15 Pro 5G support dual Nano-SIM cards, 5G connectivity, and eSIM. Both also support Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6, and 2×2 MIMO.
In the Philippines, the OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G is priced at PHP 74,999 for the 24GB (12GB + 12GB) + 256GB. While the OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G is priced at PHP 49,999 for the 24GB (12GB + 12GB) + 512GB variant.
This means the Reno16 Pro 5G is PHP 25,000 more expensive than the Reno15 Pro 5G while offering half the listed internal storage.
The OPPO Reno16 Pro 5G’s advantages include its newer Dimensity 8550 SUPER chipset, up to 144Hz display refresh rate, larger 6,700mAh battery, and support for 80W UFCS charging. Its main drawback is its higher price and lower 256GB storage capacity compared with the Reno15 Pro 5G.
The OPPO Reno15 Pro 5G offers 512GB of storage, a slightly thinner and lighter body, and the same 200MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP telephoto, and 50MP front camera setup. However, it uses the Dimensity 8450 chipset, has a maximum 120Hz refresh rate, and has a smaller 6,200mAh battery.
Overall, the Reno16 Pro 5G focuses on newer performance hardware, a higher refresh rate, a larger battery, and additional charging support, while the Reno15 Pro 5G offers more storage at a significantly lower price.
