Pres. Duterte has recently signed the Mobile Portability Law in the Philippines sponsored by Sen. Gatchalian that supports switching of mobile numbers between carriers like Globe with 0917 prefix, Smart with 0919, or even the upcoming third telco, Mislatel for free and valid.

There are no laid out rollout plan yet if both prepaid and postpaid numbers will get the same support for porting of mobile numbers but, perhaps, consumers under subscription plans will be served first.

Once all systems support the Mobile Portability Law, telcos have 48 hours to successfully port the number to another provider. Telcos will be fined up to 1 million pesos or be suspended if they fail or refuse to cater to the switching of mobile numbers while consumers could get up to P40,000 compensation from NTC for damages.

An upcoming law will also require IDs and registration when buying prepaid SIM cards in the Philippines.
