MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Announced

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its latest flagship smartphone chipset built on a 2nm process.

The CPU includes two Arm C2-Ultra cores with 2MB L2 cache each, three Arm C2-Pro cores with 1MB L2 cache, and three Arm C2-Pro cores with 512KB L2 cache. It also includes 16MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache (SLC).

According to MediaTek, the Dimensity 9600 Pro delivers 17% faster single-core performance with 37% better power efficiency, while multi-core performance is 15% faster with 61% better power efficiency compared with the previous-generation Dimensity flagship processor.

For AI processing, the chipset uses the MediaTek NPU 1090 and Super Efficient NPU 2.0. The NPU 1090 is designed for generative and agentic AI workloads, while the Super Efficient NPU 2.0 handles lower-power, always-on AI tasks. MediaTek also lists support for KV-cache compression, edge-training LLM technologies, and on-device Mixture of Experts (MoE) inference.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro supports LPDDR6 memory at up to 10,667Mbps, as well as LPDDR5X at the same rated speed. It also supports UFS 5.0 storage. MediaTek says LPDDR6 provides up to 33% higher effective memory bandwidth at the same frequency, while UFS 5.0 offers up to twice the read and write speeds of the previous generation.

The Arm Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU handles graphics. MediaTek claims up to 27% higher peak performance, 24% better power efficiency at peak performance, and up to 18% faster ray tracing compared with the previous-generation flagship chipset. It supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and gameplay above 185 FPS in supported titles.

The chipset supports displays with resolutions up to WQHD+ at 180Hz, along with a BT.2020 color pipeline and multi-frame overdrive.

For cameras, the Dimensity 9600 Pro supports sensors up to 200MP and video recording up to 8K at 60fps. Other supported formats include 4K at 60fps HDR, 4K at 120fps with EIS, and 4K at 240fps slow motion. It also supports 60fps subject tracking and 17EV HDR video capture.

Connectivity options include an integrated 5G Advanced modem with up to 5CC carrier aggregation and 350MHz bandwidth on Sub-6GHz networks. It supports Wi-Fi 7 with triple-band triple-concurrency and speeds of up to 7.3Gbps, along with Bluetooth 6.2 and dual Bluetooth engines.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro also supports H.266/VVC hardware video decoding, MV-HEVC for spatial video, and several security features, including Hardware Root of Trust, post-quantum cryptography, and AISeal hypervisor isolation.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to power upcoming flagship smartphones.

More details on supported devices and availability are expected to be announced by MediaTek and its partner brands.
