MediaTek has silently added a new chip to its mid-range lineup, the MediaTek Dimensity 7100.
The Dimensity 7100 features an eight-core CPU setup, consisting of four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at up to 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.0 GHz. It is built on TSMC’s 6nm process.
Graphics are handled by the Arm Mali-G610 GPU, which is said to be 8 percent faster than Dimensity 7050’s GPU.
Even though the processor’s setup differs little from earlier Dimensity 7000-series chips, MediaTek ensures users should be able to multitask more smoothly and launch apps more quickly than with prior mid-range processors.
According to the company, the Dimensity 7100 is around 5 percent more power-efficient during app usage, up to 16 percent more efficient during multimedia playback, and up to 23 percent more efficient on the modem side. The integrated 3GPP Release 16 5G modem uses MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology to minimize battery drain during prolonged 5G sessions and offers download rates of up to 3.3Gbps.
The chip supports LPDDR5 RAM at speeds of up to 5500Mbps and UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. 10-bit color depth, up to 1200 x 2600 resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR video playback are also supported by the processor.
For optics, it can work with camera sensors up to 200MP, HDR imaging, multi-frame noise reduction, and hardware-accelerated face detection. The company claimed that portrait detection and autofocus performance have been improved.
The Dimensity 7100 SoC can also support 45W fast charging and the UFCS universal charging protocol. There’s also a new power management system that operates at lower voltages to provide a little longer battery life.
