In an entrapment operation last September 14, Globe Telecom reported that a man from Caloocan City was discovered selling Globe and TM SIM Cards while possessing verified GCash accounts.

Globe said the man was caught selling 556 SIM cards with verified GCash accounts.

According to the telco, the suspect purchases SIM cards online for ₱350 and resells them for ₱600 each. According to Globe, fraudsters are using these accounts to circumvent e-wallet limits to, among other things, online play games.

The National Telecommunications Commission, the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and Globe worked together to make the arrest, it was added.

People who sell GCash-registered SIM cards enable criminality by being accessories to fraud. We will not relent in this campaign,” — GCash Chief Legal Officer Maricor Adriano.

It is alleged that the suspect violated Section 4 of Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act, which defines the misuse of devices as a cybercrime offense.

Ingrid Berona, chief risk officer for GCash, assured the public that their money and data are still “safe and secure.”

Stakeholders, authorities, and law enforcement personnel are collaborating to stop the growth of SMS-related spam, which has become more individualized.
