Apple has previewed iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Both operating systems expand Apple Intelligence integration in apps such as Photos, Messages, Notes, Safari, Mail, and Shortcuts.
New photo editing tools include Spatial Reframing, an Extend feature for expanding images, and an updated Clean Up tool for removing larger objects from photos. Mac users will also gain access to Image Playground for generating and editing AI-created images.
Visual Intelligence is coming to both iPad and Mac, allowing users to search, identify, and take actions based on content displayed on their screens. On Mac, the feature can also work with screenshots, images, and PDF files.
Safari receives new AI-powered features, including automatic tab grouping and Notify Me, which can monitor webpages for changes such as product restocks or price updates. The Passwords app on macOS 27 can also identify weak or compromised passwords and update them automatically.
Apple is adding more AI-powered productivity tools across the system. Siri AI can help organize notes, generate study guides, draft text, summarize information, and perform actions in apps such as Messages, Music, and Reminders. Shortcuts can also create automations from simple text descriptions.
Child safety features are being expanded on both platforms. New tools include website approval requests for children, improved protection against sensitive content, category-based screen time controls, and redesigned parental control settings.
macOS 27 Golden Gate introduces design updates based on Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, with refined toolbars, sidebars, menu icons, and new customization options. Apple also says the update improves performance through faster AirDrop transfers, quicker file browsing, improved Mail search results, and other system optimizations.
iPadOS 27 will support select iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini models
macOS 27 Golden Gate will be available on Apple silicon-powered MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and the new MacBook Neo.
Both operating systems are scheduled to launch this fall. Siri AI will initially be available in English later this year.
